Meghan Coughlan is studying mathematics at Boston College in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts. She is in her junior year, and hopes to work as an actuary after she graduates. At BC she is involved in a tutoring program that brings tutoring to children in an inner-city school. She also enjoys volunteering and coaching. Coaching and tutoring have made her consider a career in teaching, and student government has taught her the value of leadership. “Participating in these activities has made me want to remain active in my community, no matter what I end up doing”, Meghan says.
Meghan’s mother Maureen’s position with the Department of Defense has deepened her respect for the federal government and the United States. Not only will Meghan consider working with the federal government, but she has learned that participation in the government starts a lifetime of giving back to society, and is a key building block to citizenship in the United States. In addition to her academics, Meghan works part time at an ice cream stand, and has a cockapoo puppy named Lacie that she loves dearly.
