Nicholas Slipek is from St. Paul, Minnesota, and is currently studying Biology at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts. Nicholas plans to do volunteer and research work abroad, then earn his M.D./PhD. in molecular biology. Eventually, he would like to work as a physician doing research on translational medicine, developing new healthcare technologies. Nicholas has worked in a research lab the past two years at the University of Minnesota, on both basic science research and gene therapy techniques.
Nicholas is addicted to traveling. He has only been overseas twice, but visited almost every state in this country. “It is just so exciting to meet new people who think differently, who come into a situation with a completely different point of view and trying to understand one another.” This love of understanding different perspectives is also the root of Nicholas’ devotion to public service. “The things we are able to do as a group is so much greater than what any individual can achieve. The more people can get involved and get a chance to work with others in a beneficial way, the better.”
