Jasmine Rethmeyer

rethmeyer jasmineJasmine Rethmeyer is a sophomore at Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina. As a biology major on a high school education certification track, Jasmine was first inspired to become a teacher through Sigma Alpha Iota, a professional fraternity for women interested in music, where she worked with local girl scouts on their music merit badges. Jasmine also participates in the Howard Hughes Medical Institute mentoring program, tutoring a local middle school student in math and science. “It has been a great way for me to practice being a teacher, and to get to make personal connections with students in the community,” she says.

Jasmine looks up to her older brother, Justin, a college graduate with a stable and productive career. “He has always been a good example for me and I can always trust him to provide me with the advice I need to succeed.” Jasmine is also passionate about senior citizens and the elderly, and enjoys interacting with those who are very wise and more experienced in life.
