Supriya Jalukar is a freshman at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, planning to major in neuroscience or biochemistry, with a minor in international relations. Volunteering at her local hospital sparked her interest in the medical field, and ignited her burning desire to serve others. “Serving others not only makes a person feel good, it also can mean a world of difference to community members receiving help,” Supriya says. Her first goal is to become a pediatrician and work in medical research at a hospital. However, she also enjoys traveling and learning about other cultures, and is considering global health as a possible career path. She would like to study or travel abroad before applying to medical school.
Music has always drawn Supriya and her family together, and is an important element of her life. She played violin throughout high school, and hopes to join the Michigan Orchestra. “It truly amazes me how each individual string makes a distinct vibration, each instrument a unique sound. In addition to teamwork, music has taught me the impact a passion can have on a person’s life.”
