Samuel Beavin

beavin samuelSamuel Beavin studies biochemistry and math at the University of Kentucky, in Lexington. Although he is uncertain about his post-graduation plans, he knows he wants a career that includes both research opportunities, and opportunities to work with people. He has considered medical school or a graduate program in chemistry; and he also hopes to somehow incorporate environmental work and research into a career. As secretary for Greenthumb, his school’s environmental club, Sam has been amazed by some of the people who dedicate themselves to helping protect our planet. “I really hope to contribute to solving the many problems facing the environment and the planet as a whole,” he says.

Sam runs almost every day, and this January he plans to run in his first marathon. His long-term goal is to race in the Boston Marathon sometime in the next few years. His family has always been remarkably supportive of him in everything that he does, both academically and outside of school. Sam works on campus as a Teaching Assistant for ten freshman students taking general chemistry, helping them to develop problem-solving skills.
