Olivia Sedwick is a freshman at Winston-Salem State University, in North Carolina, who plans to attend law school after graduation, and to practice constitutional law and/or appeals litigation. Her ultimate goal is to argue in the United States Supreme Court and then be a Supreme Court Justice. She looks up to Justice Thurgood Marshall, and is fortunate to mentor with the Honorable Judge Tanya Walton-Pratt. “She is a remarkable woman and a genuine person, and is helping me along the way to my journey in law,” says Olivia. She plans to participate in her school’s chapter of the National Council of Negro Women, and to run track for WSSU.
Olivia believes that the major professions- doctors, lawyers, government officials, etc.- all deal with providing a service to the masses. Therefore, young people not only need to know how to serve others, but how to deal with people in general. Olivia loves reading, singing, playing her piano, and sports in her free time. She is passionate about the phenomenon of “going green” and loves hip-hop, and discussing hip-hop’s place in society.
