Alvin Thomas is in his final year in a combined Bachelors-Masters program in Professional Accounting, at the University of Texas at Austin, McCombs School of Business. Alvin dreams of using his degree for meaningful work that improves lives. On campus, he is involved with Pratham UT, a program combating illiteracy and raising funds for education of children in India. He feels that this gives him a chance to help people he does not know, or will never see; to do something for purely unselfish reasons. “This has helped me learn that changing the status quo is important to me. I want to be active in changing the world instead of passively accepting things the way they are.”
Alvin has a keen interest in entrepreneurship, reading many books and case studies on startup companies. He believes that young people serve an important role by bringing in “fresh eyes” to any organization, thinking of new ways to solve problems, and ensuring that the needs of the upcoming generation are met.
