Dan Filer is employed with National Park Service as a Volunteer Coordinator for the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal National Historical Park. His position has become his passion, allowing him to witness first-hand the fun and health benefits of recreating in our national parks. He has become an avid bicycler and hiker on public lands, and he believes that public service is an excellent education tool for the classroom.

Dan simply loves learning, and is working towards his Doctorate in Educational Leadership Studies at West Virginia University. After attaining this degree, he hopes to transition into higher education or work for a federal agency that supports the efforts of higher education. In addition to teaching or coordinating training, he would really like to work directly with students. Dan’s father never had the opportunity to attend college, and he is greatly appreciative of his father’s efforts to push him and support his education.
